Professor Joel Obo Eriba, JP, MNAE, MNAPE, MSTAN, MNACT, MLRN, ISCHER, TRCN, IPAM. B.Sc. (Ed) Ilorin; M.Ed., Ph.D


Professor Joel Obo Eriba was born in 1958 to the family of Elijah Obo Eriba of Ichakobe-Ibilla, Oju LGA of Benue State, Nigeria. Professor Eriba has a lustrous teaching career of thirty eight (38) years in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. He taught for sixteen (16) years in two Colleges of Education before joining the University in 2002 from where he rose to the rank of Professor of Science Education (Chemistry) in 2008. He also has twenty-five (25) years of administrative experience in tertiary institutions ranging from Head of Department in College of Education, Oju to a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) in Benue State University, Makurdi.

Professor Joel Eriba has visited nine (9) countries of the world where he attended eight (8) trainings in the management of higher education. He has nine (9) honours and merit awards as recognition of his community service and his professional practice. He is a member of eight (8) professional bodies including the prestigious, Nigerian Academy of Education. He was/is still Chairman/member of some Statutory and Ad-hoc Committees of the University and five (5) Boards of schools, churches and two Non-governmental Organizations.

Professor Joel Obo Eriba has assessed lecturers for Professorial appointments in eleven (11) Universities in Nigeria. He supervised and graduated twenty (20) PhDs, over fifty (50) M.Ed. candidates and over 70 B.Sc.Ed/ B.Ed. candidates. Professor Eriba has seventy-nine (79) publications in Journals and Textbooks, and over forty-one (41) Conference/Workshop Papers. His dogma is: "That I may show what I know, and strive to know what I don’t know so as to let all who do not know have the opportunity to know what they need to know through my dedicated service to God and humanity". He is married to Christy Ajuma Eriba and they have children and grand Children.

The Provost is the Chief Executive of the College and he/she is charged with the general responsibility of the day-to-day administration of the College.

The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the College. She is responsible to the Provost. He/she

  • Keeps the record of the college
  • Conducts the correspondence of the Council
  • Functions as the secretary to the council, the College Management, the Academic Board and any Committee of the Council; and
  • Performs such other duties as the Council or the Provost may from time to time direct.

Dr. Shehu Umar Mabera. CLN, MNLA B.A Lib. Sc & Soc.; M.Sc Lib. Sc.; Ph.D Lib & Info. Sc. (Kano).


Dr. Shehu Umar Mabera was born on 4th August, 1964 at Mabera-Mujaya in Sokoto town, Sokoto State. He attended Filin Jirgi Primary School (now Yahaya Gusau Model Primary School), Sokoto between 1972 and 1979 before proceeding to Government Science Secondary School, Yabo, Sokoto State from 1979 to 1984. His professional experience spans over a period of thirty (30) years; from 1985 to date. He joined the services of the Abdullahi Fodiyo Library, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) (formerly University of Sokoto) in 1985 as a Library Assistant and rose through the ranks to the post of Principal Librarian which was his designation prior to his appointment as the College Librarian.

Since joining the Abdullahi Fodiyo Library, he had served in all the units and divisions of the Library at both junior and senior cadre levels. At senior cadre level, he was Head, Reference Section; Head, African/Document Collections; Head, Research and Bibliographic Division; Head, Audio Visual Unit; Head, Digitization Unit; School Librarian, School of Veterinary Medicine Librarian and Medical Librarian.

Dr. Mabera had a rare privilege of serving as a pioneer University Librarian of Sokoto State University, Sokoto from 2012 to 2016 where he took active part in the development of the Library, as well as laid the library operational procedures. Within a short period of take-off, the collection of the Library grew tremendously with a good collection of basic textbooks, reference materials, Journals and e-resources.

Dr. Mabera is a Chartered Librarian registered with the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN); he belongs to several National and International Organizations and has rendered unquantifiable services to humanity through these organizations.

He was the Chairman, Library Social Welfare Association, Abdullahi Fodiyo Library Complex, UDUS 2004 – 2007; Welfare Secretary, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UDUS Branch 2006 – 2008; Chairman, Youth Committee on Peaceful Co-existence, Gagi District, Sokoto South Local Government Area, Sokoto State 2005 – 2006; Editor/PRO, Nigerian Library Association – Information Technology Section 2008 – 2012; Member, Special Library Association (USA) 2009 – 2011; Member, Association of University Librarian of Nigerian Universities (AULNU) 2012 – 2016; Chairman, Salame-Mujaya Community Development Association; Member, Nigerian Library Association (NLA); Member Academic and Research Libraries Section of the NLA.

Dr. Mabera had made some modest contributions to the Abdullahi Fodiyo Library, UDUS. As a middle level officer, he introduced SDI and indexing services at the Medical/Veterinary Sciences Library, UDUS from 1993 – 1997; reorganized the School Library of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Model Secondary in 2002; set-up the School of Matriculation Library, UDUS in 2003; set-up the American Corner Sokoto an information centre jointly established by the American Embassy, Abuja and UDUS in 2005; set-up the Pharmaceutical Sciences Library, faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, UDUS in 2011.

Dr. Mabera has been leading the Library Accreditation Committee for NUC and professional accreditation exercises in Medical and Veterinary programmes at UDUS since 2017 and the library components of the exercises have always been successful.

Dr. Mabera attended several conferences, Seminars and Workshops within and outside the country. His hobbies include reading, travelling and farming. He is happily married with children.

The College Librarian is responsible to the Provost and charged with the administration of the College Library and the co-ordination of the Library Services of the College
